2018 Bryant Mill Pond Dam Removal

In early 2018 the 90-year old dam for the Bryant Mill pond is being removed. The reasons given for this removal are that the dam no longer has a function, prevents fish migration and holds contaminated sediments in place.

It cost four million dollars. The big cost is because of the contamination and that the dam is structurally tied in to the Alcott St bridge. The bed of the creek south of the bridge is being shifted to the west of the current bed. Half the cost will be paid by the Natural Resource Damage Trustee Council, which uses funds set aside in the Lyondell Chemical bankruptcy.
